Helping Uganda Schools is a Charity officially registered in May 2003 which is has helped to build a school near Mubende, assists one near to Gayazza, in Jinja, and has funded the building and running of the first Special Needs school in the west of the country at Fort Portal.

All donations given for our schools go to the schools and we do not use any of your donations for the schools to pay administration costs or other overheads. We work on the principle that we can have better long term success if we enable people to help themselves. We don't send workers to Uganda. But we do provide the money, the support and the skills to help villagers and parents to help themselves

Starting with a small group of friends in 1995 we are now playing an important part in the education of over 800 children of primary school age and now secondary age and our first graduates have now returned to the village and are helping to run the school. Academic results are excellent putting the school in the very highest group in Uganda.

Good Shepherd School for Special Needs Children was started near Fort Portal at the end of 2007. The first 3 classrooms opened in September 2008 with 30 handicapped and special needs children and will grow over the future months. We have already started our own farm to help feed the children. This will be a first Special Needs School in the west of Uganda We had the official opening in February 2009

A Secondary School near Mubende. In December 2008, 600 plus children finished Primary School in the region but there is only a single one form entry Secondary School. The result is that for perhaps 500 children there is no real hope of getting secondary schooling and vocational skills. We have started to build our first secondary school on the land alongside our primary school and expect to develop this over the next 6 years and make it part of an educational and vocational campus

We decided to take on this new challenge on June 2nd 2008. Three days later the villagers and parents had started to clear the site in preparation for the building works. Within 3 months they have made 30,000 bricks. And by February 2009 we started with about 30 children.

Do we help other schools? We often get asked this question. Unfortunately we cannot do this and have decided to really focus all our resources on the existing schools. We will not be able to enter into correspondence if you ask for support.

Educational Certificates. Why not buy something a bit different for the friend who has lots of things?  A gift certificate which pays for a number of weeks of primary schooling would be a really different sort of present with  a great benefit to everyone. Do e mail for details. You could pay for 4 weeks for £12, eight weeks for £24 and we have a gift certificate to put in your friend's card. We have three card designs and can send you some free of charge. Education Certificates
